My Musical Collective-Literature

The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts-Sufjan Stevens

Kid Sam-Cemetary

Revolver & Sun

Revolver & Sun are a garage band from the surf caost in Victoria. They remind me of the 13th floor elevators. They are all really young too. It amazes me that such young fellas can make such awesome music.

The Drones

When I was 8 years younger, I used to frequent the only record store in this tired little beach town. It was run by a couple who were massively into all kinds of music and they even played in there own band, the double agents. Every time I bought a record they would give me another record for a slightly cheaper price but the hook was they would choose that record for me. One day I was given The drones-Here come the lies, which is a classic record and always will be. The drones have come a long way since then.

Japandroids

This song and this album are unbelievably good. I dont know how they make so much sound with only guitar and drums.

Red Riders

I didn't like the first single of their new record but this song is perfect! Apparently one of the members was creating a concept album that was half post-punk meet simon and garfunkel folk and this was the only song to survive from those sessions. Its bloody awesome which makes me wonder will the red riders ever make that album. They always said that their first release, 'replica, replica' was a one off guitar driven album. Maybe they will go in a different direction on the third album.

Julian Casablancas

The lothario lead singer of the strokes is releasing a solo album in the next few months. It's called 'phrazes for the young' and features songs entitled 'ludlow st'and 'glass'. Visit juliancasablancas.com for more information.

This isn't the first time Julian has broken rank with the band. He has released 3 other singles with other artists. 'my drive thru' with santogold and pharrell, boombox with the lonely island trio and more recently his collaboration with sparklehorse/david lynch, dark night of the soul, 'little girl'.

Here's a few songs from some of the above artists.

Pets with Pets

The girl up and down is ridiculously simple and fucking infectious. I cant get this song out of my head. I'm making a mix cd to stave off boredom.

i can't stand people who say aye at the end of a sentence. for example, 'i went to the bottle shop, aye'

Jay Reatard

Yeah I know i'm slow to jump on the Jay Bandwagon. But this guy creates gnarly, dirty garage rock that bursts your eardrums and attacks your senses. I've watched this Sailor Jerry Video of his performance about a million times and it is just raw brilliance. His music makes me want to start a garage rock band.

Go to sailor jerrys as well they have some awesome videos
